Businesses have been flogging apps like Skype, Facebook Messenger and Whatsapp to help staff members communicate, manage their time and connect with other colleagues.

The apps have attracted billions of dollars in investment and hundreds of millions of dollars of sales in the past year.

But how does the internet work to make the internet useful to businesses?
